What in the world?

Do you ever wonder what happened when you look at something you have created?  I still have not figured this one out, but there it is – strange, but in some way haunting to me.  It almost looks like this orb is breaking through some rust.  Believe it or not, I spent days on this one…eeek.  It is acrylic on 12″x6″ hardboard.  At least it is acrylic, so I can paint over it when I am finished contemplating.

It almost feels to me like I am looking through a keyhole or maybe the glory hole which is the opening in the furnace into which the glassblower inserts the rod with the glass on the end. I really like the contrasts and the glow you created from the orb is just amazing. Dazzling.

  • My first thought when I saw it was a door knob opening to who knows where, but it looks hot. :)

Suki, yes, it kind of does look like a glory hole, doesn’t it? I had not seen it that way at all, but you are right. I am glad you like it and thanks for the glory hole thought!

Hi Cris, it seems as though extreme heat first comes to people’s minds with this one. Mmmm, I am still wondering what I was thinking. Maybe it has to do with being in my early 50′s that the heat is an issue! LOL

Haven’t we all worked days on a piece that just doesn’t work. I think we try so hard to save those “special, jeweled areas” that we lose the essence of the painting. The colors of the circle are beautiful yet holds ones eye and doesn’t give a chance to explore the rest of the painting.

Let us know what the new painting looks like.

Boy, this one sure doesn’t work, Gwen! Your assessment is right on target, though…that orb leaves no room for exploration. You know, though, I think it is good to acknowledge sometimes things just don’t work out and go on from there. I have also gotten some good feedback and even some additional ideas for working forward, so how bad can that be?

I will let you know how this one evolves.

Thanks Gwen. I hope you are all settled (and well) in Taos.
