The Ink Has It’s Way

Continuing with the work of doing quick sketches and trying (the operative word) to let go of my structured, drafting background, I am learning to allow the ink to have it’s way with the paper.  Ink and paper are great friends and often they come up with some great work.  This very fast sketch (like 4 or 5 minutes) is not one of their greatest moments, but it just is what it is.  Things are crooked and helter-skelter, but there are aspects which may come back to me at some point. We will see.  In the meantime, I am just putting the ink to paper and seeing what happens.  Do you do that sometimes – just see what happens without planning?  In time, good things come of that attitude and that practice.  I hope all is very good in your world today!

BTW, my table is not anywhere near this neat.  That aspect is just the artist’s choice  :)   I also rarely sit at this table, so there is literally no chair.

i adore crooked and helter-skelter. good for you for plunging in the way to break out of the drafting mode. unfortunately most of my life is unplanned. i’d like to have a few plans. but…blank as a newly minted sheet of paper.!

Dear Suki, I am so glad you feel that way! Thank You! I have struggled forever to get out of this mode and with Andrea’s encouragement I have finally “seen the light” and agree it is so much better to be spontaneous. It feels so right to me and just giving myself that kind of permission is huge. Being married to an engineer, I can’t let go completely (although it sounds very appealing), but I am focusing on bringing that into my life more and more. Now I adore this line “blank as a newly minted sheet of paper!” It is absolutely perfect! Thank you dear friend!
