Hemp Paper Testing

I have been obsessed with bottles lately.  Of course, they have to be bottles done my way, but they are bottles never-the-less.  With this particular drawing, I was really only testing some hemp paper.  I can tell you it takes ink quite well which you can see as lines on the bottle.  As far as saturating the paper with water, it did not take it well.  Once the paper had dried, it was still fragile.  When I picked up the paper to scan it for you, it actually tore in my hand.  I really like this paper for drawing, but it is really not suitable for any wet application.  If you have had a different experience, please share it.   Maybe I did not handle it correctly.

An obsession with wine bottles, eh? lol! I love these colours and though the wet application doesn’t suit the paper physically, it sure works colourwise! xx

Awe, thanks Lesley! I kept wondering about this obsession with the wine bottles. I think it is about finding the beautiful emptiness when craziness goes on around you. At least that is what is going through my head at the moment! I am glad you think the colors work here. They are a bit out of my personal comfort zone, but that is okay, too. Sometimes getting to that core is uncomfortable, but it is also well worth the effort! Thanks again, my friend! Kim

I really like the painting despite the tears. the way the paint looks on the paper is so much like watery red juice. do you know Morandi?? He spent years painting bottles. The inside of your bottle is marvelous. full of many twisted mazes to draw the eye. and i like the contrast of ink and paint. also the paper tearing makes the work very Wabi-Sabi. Maybe it’s a “statement.” LOL

Hello Suki and thank you very much for reminding me that the tears are a part of the work, itself! I like thinking of it as Wabi-Sabi with the beauty in just what it is and how it was meant to be! I like the idea of this being a statement in itself! :) I had forgotten about Morandi. His bottles were very different from these, to be sure. I have always had a thing about vessels, so maybe this is some kind of extension of that, I don’t know. I have this theory about women and their love of vessels (purses, little boxes, bowls, etc.) being because women are vessels themselves (we carry so much inside ourselves not only emotionally and spiritually, but physically). Thank you Dear Suki! I hope you are doing well as I have been thinking of you a lot! Hugs!
